The most frequent command or teaching in scripture was not to be holy, or to love one another but to not worry, to have no fear or to not be anxious. In fact, there are about 365 mentions of this given by Jesus in the New Testament. We might think that Jesus is only trying to help us to alleviate our anxieties but He is actually commanding us not to worry. We constantly have to look to the Lord, read His word and meditate on His promised comforts in the midst of the chaos of life. We need to be reminded regularly that God is with us and He really is in control. Here are some scripture to mediate on that can remind you of the truth that He is an ever present help, you don’t need to be anxious and afraid – Psalms 46:1-2
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble” – Matthew 6:34 ESV
He Will Give You What You Need…. Himself – “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control” – 2 Timothy 1:7 ESV
He is Always With You – “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you” – Deuteronomy 31:6 ESV. “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” – Isaiah 41:10 ESV
He Will Guard Your Heart and Mind – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” – Philippians 4:6-7 ESV
He Really Does Care About You – “Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you” – 1 Peter 5:7 ESV. “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these” – Matthew 6:25-34 ESV
He Is Your Counselor – “Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you” – Psalm 55:22-23 ESV. “When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul” – Psalm 94:19 ESV
Ironic that you wrote this today as I had a friend I was talking to that was dealing with this very issue. So I passed this along to them.
Thanks for speaking as God leads you. It always goes out to those that need it. Even if you never find out who that is.
thanks so much Jon. It is exciting to see God use the blog to help others. Thanks for your encouragement.
